Saugeen Shores Officers Assist with Water Rescue

July 5, 2019Saugeen Shores Police Service MEDIA RELEASE – WATER RESCUE ASSISTANCE – 05JUL19 On July 5, 2019 at approx. 9:03am, the Saugeen Shores Police Service was dispatched to the area of the Southampton harbour for report of an out of control boat circling in the water with the possibility of the boat operator in the water. The Ontario Provincial Police had also been contacted and were enroute. Prior to the arrival of Emergency services an adult male was pulled from the waters of Lake Huron by 3 boaters who had gone the assistance of the vessel. They began CPR immediately and transported the male to the docks at the Chesley Street Boat Launch in Southampton. 3 officers of the Saugeen Shores Police Service met the boat at the dock and utilized an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and continued CPR. Bruce County EMS arrived shortly after and the male was transported to the Grey Bruce Health Services - Southampton Hospital by Bruce County EMS along with the officers who continued to provide CPR assistance. The male remains in hospital at this time. The Saugeen Shores Fire Department, the Ontario Provincial Police Marine Unit and the Canadian Coast Guard provided assistance at the scene and the Ontario Provincial Police continue to investigate the incident. The Saugeen Shores Police would like to thank all emergency services and persons involved, and our thoughts are with the male and his family at this time.
