Fight Leads to Drug and Weapons Arrest

On October 31st, 2018 at 2am officers from the Ontario Provincial Police were passing through Saugeen Shores when they observed a suspicious vehicle enter the Mac’s Convenience parking lot in Southampton.  A male passenger exited the vehicle and began to assault a pedestrian.  The officers arrested the male for assault and the Saugeen Shores Police responded to assist.

An investigation revealed that the driver of vehicle was prohibited from driving as a result of a criminal code suspension for flight from police. A search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of Adderall amphetamine, which is a Schedule 1 substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.  Further to the search of the vehicle, two replica hand guns were recovered.

Both the passenger and the driver of the vehicle were banned from possessing weapons or ammunition as the result of court orders.

The victim of the assault declined to press charges.

Driver - 29 year old male charged with:

1.            Driving while disqualified – Criminal Code
2.            Possession of Schedule 1 Substance (amphetamine) – Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
3.            Fail to Comply with a Probation Order – Criminal Code
4.            Possession of a Weapon and Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order – Criminal Code
5.            Drive Motor Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available – Cannabis Act 2017
6.            Use Plate not Authorized for Vehicle – Highway Traffic Act
7.            Drive Motor Vehicle With Open Container of Liquor – Liquor Licence Act

Passenger – 32 year old male charged with:

1.            Possession of Schedule 1 Substance (amphetamine) – Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
2.            Possession of a Weapon and Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order – Criminal Code

Both accuseds were released on a promise to appear an officer in charge undertaking.
